My New Journey - Day 1

Day 1 - Sunday, April 30, 2023

Bali and I left home about 11AM this morning in the midst of rain. Bali slept in her crate with her paw on her little stuffed duck. I guess she wanted to make sure he didn't float away. Everything is so beautiful and green here!

On this road trip I am trying my best to avoid highways and toll roads. Of course, that is not always possible. However, I didn't think I would barely get out of the county before hitting this dirt road! LOL! Love it! 💜

As most people know, I have no destinations (not really). I knew my first stop would be in the NC mountains though. I did have to get on Interstate 73 and man-o-man was there a hail/rain storm. No damage, but I could barely see, so I pulled over. Speed was 70 MPH and everyone dropped down to 50 MPH. I checked the radar and it wasn't so bad ahead, so kept going when the hail/rain let up. If anyone is concerned about my car, I had all service, including all new front and read brakes and rotors as well as 4 new tires put on before we left. The Interstates here have red and pink tulips alongside them and it is beautiful.

We stopped in Asheboro, NC to get food for the week and then took the backroads again. I know the meme I put above says "snacks", but all I got was food and it definitely didn't come to $80! When I got out, it was still raining, but had started to let up. When I was almost ready to get to Interstate 40, this happened...Blue Sky!!!

As that happened, the song that came on was "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles. So aprapos!

Speaking of music...I had some of the best tunes going today. Just have to have good tunes on road trips, right? I had my friend, Robert Berry's CD of his new band SixBySix. Shameless plug here... 😀 If you want to check out his music, his website is http://robertberry.com. He's a superb musician, studio owner, producer, and writer and does progressive rock. The website for SixBySix is https://sixbysixband.com. Along with Robert (who is very well known in his own rite), there is Ian Crichton (SAGA) and Nigel Glockler (SAXON). Check it out!

One thing about being on the road and taking the backroads is that you get to see sights you would never see driving the main roads. I love old barns and this was a good one.

As I got closer to Pisgah Forest, I stopped at a couple of campgrounds. I need something with electricity (for my mini-fridge) for a couple of nights. The back of my car is a disaster! I needed a place to be able to pull everything out and organize. Both campgrounds I stopped at were either full or didn't have an electric site. So...on to Plan B. I ended up in Asheville, NC and used some of my points to get a hotel room for the night. Bali is comfortably sleeping in her bed sleeping. Zzz...

I'm now going to look on-line and see what campgrounds I can find. 🙄

2023 Journey

The New Journey

"Life has no limitations, except the ones you make." ~Les Brown

Beginning a new journey. I leave on Sunday, April 30, 2023 with Bali. For those that don't know, I retired last May (2022). I have my dog, Bali (yes, another Schipperke) and she and I are going on this road trip together - parts unknown.

Should I be doing this? Probably not. But there is something about being on the road that feeds my soul. And...I have nothing better to do! 🤣 I don't know what the future holds; no one does. Just living for today. Be afraid...and do it anyway.

So, if you want to join me on this journey, please feel free to do so. Enjoy the ride!
